Although there are some areas in San José where you should be careful (like any other city), overall this is an extremely safe city with very little crime compared to other capitals in Central America such as Guatemala City or Tegucigalpa Honduras where I lived for 3 years before moving here!

San Jose is the safest and most stable city in Costa Rica

If you are looking for a safe and stable place to travel, San Jose is the best choice. It’s the capital of Costa Rica and has been dubbed “The City of Peace,” because it has been relatively free from major armed conflict since its founding in 1562. While the rest of Costa Rica was embroiled in civil war from 1948-1954, San Jose remained neutral and peaceful throughout this period.

San Jose

There are also many other reasons why it’s considered one of the safest cities in all of Central America:

  • There are no large gangs or organized crime groups operating within its borders; instead, most criminal activity takes place along its borders with Nicaragua (to its north) and Panama (to its south).
  • This means that tourists have little reason to worry about being targeted by criminals who want their money or belongings while traveling through these parts of town during any given day.
  • Its police force patrols heavily at night so residents can feel safe walking down sidewalks after dark without having anything stolen from them.
  • Many people live within close proximity to others without feeling unsafe because everyone knows each other by name (or face) thanks to frequent interactions between neighbors during regular events like block parties where children play together
San Jose

There are many reasons why San Jose is the safest and most stable city in Costa Rica. It has a strong economy, low crime rates and beautiful weather all year round. In addition, there are lots of things to do and see in this city so you won’t get bored easily!
